One way to prepare for the 2023 Synod convened by Pope Francis is to return to the founding texts of the New Testament to examine how synodality was experienced in the practice of the first Christian communities. The book of the Acts of the Apostles – which recounts, from a theological perspective, the great events that marked the beginnings of the Church – constitutes, in this regard, a unique and unsurpassed witness. This webinar will focus on key texts in Acts where we can see the exercise of synodality unfolding with its ensuing consequences, including those relating the election of Matthias (Acts 1), the creation of a new ministry in the service of the most forsaken (Acts 6) and, above all, the discernment process concerning the welcoming of “Gentiles” into the Church (Acts 15).
This webinar is part of the series For a Synodal Church: Reflections on Communion, Participation, Mission.
