The Archdiocese encourages and supports the education of the faith community regarding the moral imperative for all to serve as Stewards of Creation. Through the work of Dr. John Dorner, Ph.D., we assist parishes in the implementation of ecological initiatives, both at the church and in homes. If you would like to learn more about any of these intiatives, please contact Dr. Dorner.
On May 24, Pope Francis announced, “Today is the 5th anniversary of the Encyclical Laudato Si’, with which we sought to call attention to the cry of the earth and of the poor…The Laudato Si’ Week which we just celebrated, will blossom in a special anniversary Year of Laudato Si’, a special Year to reflect on the Encyclical from May 24 of this year to May 24 of next year.”
The Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops’ (CCCB) 2017 document entitled Living Out Laudato Si’: A Commentary and Practical Resource for Canadian Catholics may be a useful resource to assist in further reflections on the significance of Laudato Si’ during this special year. The document is organized into six chapters, each based on one of the six chapters of the encyclical, and concludes with a series of reflection questions and resources for action, organized under the headings See, Learn, Pray, Act.
