The Church celebrates the Holy Season of Lent to prepare ourselves for the Easter Mystery. The structure of this holy season with its particular liturgical celebrations, such as Ash Wednesday, the Scrutinies for those seeking entrance to the Church through baptism at Easter, Palm Sunday and the Holy Week liturgies are meaningful and familiar. Though Lent may continue in a predictable pattern, circumstances in the world change from year to year. Each Lent, though familiar, is unique because we are experiencing life differently this year than the preceding one. Click here to read the full message.
Lent is an important time of preparation leading to the great feast of Easter. The Church in her wisdom gives us these 40 days to reflect and prepare through fasting, prayer and alms giving. Lent begins on Ash Wednesday (February 17th) and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday (April 1st).
There have never been so many amazing tools, especially online. In fact there are so many it's tough to what to choose. In this special Lenten section of the website we have tried to help narrow it down. We feel confident that you will find one or two ideas.
"This year the Lord grants us, once again, a favourable time to prepare to celebrate with renewed hearts the great mystery of the death and resurrection of Jesus, the cornerstone of our personal and communal Christian life. We must continually return to this mystery in mind and heart, for it will continue to grow within us in the measure that we are open to its spiritual power and respond with freedom and generosity."
