Father Denis Lefebvre passed away at his home in Berwick on Friday, April 30th, 2021. He was 83 years old.
Father Denis Lefebvre was born on November 22nd, 1937 in Saint-Isidore-de-Prescott, Ontario, son of Omer Lefebvre and Germaine Denis. He was one of many siblings. He studied at Collège St-Alexandre (Les Pères du Saint Esprit) Limbour, Hull, and then studied theology at St. Augustine Seminary in Toronto.
He was ordained a priest for the Diocese of Alexandria by Bishop Joseph-Aurèle Plourde at Notre-Dames-des-Anges Parish in Moose Creek, Ontario, on June 12th, 1965. His first assignment was vicar at Sainte-Croix Parish in Cornwall for one year. He then became vicar at Sainte-Thérèse-de-Lisieux Parish in Cornwall from 1966 to 1968, then at Nativité-de-la- Bienheureuse-Vierge-Marie Parish in Cornwall until 1971. For six months in 1970, he was the administrator of Notre-Dame-du-Rosaire Parish in Crysler. In 1971, he became the vicar at Sacré-Coeur Parish in Alexandria, and then in 1972 he moved back to Sainte-Croix Parish in Cornwall. In 1975 he became the pastor of St. James Parish in Maxville. St. Catherine of Sienna Parish in Greenfield was added to his responsibilities in 1976. In 1988, he became the pastor to St. Martin of Tours Parish in Glen Robertson and St. Paul Parish in Dalkeith. He became the pastor of Precious Blood Parish in Glen Walter in 1997. Then in 2000, he retired for health reasons.
Father Denis Lefebvre was a good priest, a man of prayer, a man who loved to learn about the life of the Church and who enjoyed good fellowship. He was a man of a reserved character.
His funerals will take place at a future date at Notre-Dame-des-Anges Parish in Moose Creek and he will be interred at Precious Blood Cemetery in Glen Walter.
