THE CATHOLIC DIOCESAN CENTRE IS RELOCATING The building housing the Diocesan Centre of the Archdiocese of Ottawa-Cornwall at 1247 Kilborn Place is near the end of its lifespan. Diocesan administration is planning to relocate occupants of the John Paul II Residence for retired clergy by next spring. The Chancery and the Diocesan Centre offices will relocate before the end of this year.
Recent difficulties with heating and cooling, the status of the boilers and other deficiencies have moved up the timetable for the relocation. The building’s other tenants, including Catholic Christian Outreach, CNEWA Canada, Development and Peace, and the Council on Aging of Ottawa, will also need to vacate the space by December 18, 2020. Msgr Léo Villeneuve, Moderator of the Curia, commented, “We aim to ensure the long term safety and comfort of our employees and the staff of the other ministries that we host. Although we are in no immediate danger, this building, built in 1957, is no longer sustainable.”
The Archdiocese is currently assessing its property holdings to choose the most suitable interim location to house diocesan offices until a permanent new location is built.
